It seems like Adele has gotten hold of the overlords who rule Apple. Coincidently, weeks after her tirade about a fan recording her concert, Apple has filed a patent to stop iPhones from recording at concerts.

As TechInsider reports via CBC, “the infrared signal would prevent iPhone users from recording in a specific direction. Images of a concert stage might be blocked, but users would still be able to take photos of their friends from a different direction.”

The patent reads, “For example, an infrared emitter can be located in areas where picture or video capture is prohibited, and the emitter can generate infrared signals with encoded data that includes commands to disable the recording functions of devices. An electronic device can then receive the infrared signals, decode the data and temporarily disable the device’s recording function based on the command.”

That’s a lot to take in… but the bottom line is, if an artist doesn’t want you to record at their concert, they may soon have the technology to stop you.
