They’re actors, recording stars, TV personalities, athletes and models – and these 50 Canadians have one thing in common: a spot on Hello! Canada’s 50 Most Beautiful Canadians list for 2017!
We’re happy to celebrate them at a time when their star is rising (think newly minted Juno winner Ruth B.) or burning more brightly than ever (hello, Ryan Gosling!). They’re all photogenic, to be sure, but they exemplify what it means to be beautiful on the inside, too, thanks to their creative pursuits, charitable efforts and obliging nature with fans. For all those reasons and more, superstar Celine Dion kicks off our list.
Over the course of the past year, she has collaborated with new artists, added to her style cred with bold fashion choices and made her first-ever appearance at the Met Gala. This is a new chapter of her life without her late husband, René. And Celine is embracing new opportunities with the unabashed enthusiasm fans love to see from the star. As Celine would say, the show must go on! Here’s to Celine – and to the flurry of beautiful Canadian stars who make us proud. (FULL LIST is here).
CELINE DION

AGE 49
PROUD MOM “What makes me most proud is to be a mother, [and] I have three magnificent kids”
SIMPLE PLEASURES Never mind a spa day, Celine is happy to relax at home. “I prefer to have candles, a coffee, a look at magazines, do finger-painting with my kids, have tea at teatime”
THE SHOW MUST GO ON She’ll always miss her husband, René, who died in January 2016, but she remains strong. “I have the love of my children. I have the love of my fans. I love the people that I work with. So my life is not empty of love”
A JACK OF ALL TRADES She’s a world-renowned singer, businesswoman and now fashion designer. The star has launched her own accessories line, which features handbags, luggage and more
PASSION FOR FASHION ”Do we know any girls in the world who don’t really like to be jewelled or dressed up? I never met one”

BRINGING SEXY BACK The notoriously introverted star lets it all out in his chart-topping music, which has earned him Grammys, comparisons to Michael Jackson and GQ’s title “The King of Sex Pop” CHOP CHOP How did he feel about taking the shears to his signature hairstyle? “I think I felt a single tear come down my cheek,” he joked.
DRAKE

HOMETOWN Toronto
AGE 30
ZERO TO 100 From Degrassi: The Next Generation to the Grammys, everything the prolific hitmaker touches turns to platinum
LOOKING FOR THE GIRL NEXT DOOR He has had romances with Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez, but when it comes to settling down, home may be where his heart is. “When I think about the girls I want to get romantic with, it’s a girl from Toronto who knows what I’m talking about when we drive around the city”

RYAN GOSLING

HOMETOWN London, Ont.
AGE 36
GOLDEN BOY While he keeps his private life private, Canada’s most valuable export (according to the “Hey Girl” memes all over the Internet) took a swoon-worthy moment to thank his lady love, Eva Mendes, and their children, Esmeralda and Amada, after scoring his first-ever Golden Globe this year for La La Land
DREAM TEAM “Eva’s the dream mother, and [my kids are] dream babies, and it’s like a dream that I’m having right now. I’m dreaming it all. So I feel so lucky”

I love Tina Fey. I love the girls … we got to have a reunion at a photo shoot a couple of years ago and it wasn’t enough!”
BEAUTY ADVICE Her mother Sandra suggested she switch from black mascara to brown, which better complements her popping blue eyes girlhood dreams “[Movie fame] wasn’t something I really meditated on or planned for in any way. I really thought I’d be doing theatre in Canada”

PRIME MINISTER JUSTIN TRUDEAU

OH, CANADA! Of all the criticisms lobbed at world leaders, “too dreamy” isn’t one you hear often
TATTOO PRIMER Even his ink is subject to breathless international reporting. After a tattoo was spotted on his left shoulder, the Canadian Prime Minister took to Twitter to explain the art — the Earth inside a Haida raven
A TRUE ROMANTIC The Capricorn’s first date with wife Sophie included a declaration of love (and a marriage proposal!): “I said, ‘Well, it’s about time you arrived. It’s been 32 years and I was beginning to think you would never show up. I’ve been waiting for you all my life”
SHAWN MENDES

HOMETOWN Pickering, Ont.

CELEBRITY INFLUENCE He’s a huge fan of John Mayer: “We’re actually getting to be really good friends, which is amazing for someone like me. He’s my idol, musically”
