From her upcoming studio album, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom due out this Friday, Halsey has released a new song called ‘Strangers’ that features Fifth Harmony’s Lauren Jauregui.

The song follows ‘Eyes Closed’ and ‘Now or Never’, both of which will appear on Halsey’s forthcoming album.

‘Strangers’ is a pro-LGBTQ song that Halsey wanted to do for the LGBTQ community as she told The Zach Sang Show, “I just love that Lauren and I are two women who have a mainstream pop presence doing a love song for the LGBTQ community. It’s unheard of. It’s very rare to see it from a female perspective.”

In the same interview, Halsey says that working with Lauren was not just an easy choice but an important one for her because she wanted a female singer who was part of the LGBTQ community (Lauren is bi-sexual, as is Halsey).

She said, “I was thinking to myself, if I want this song to be believable, it needs to be real, so I’m not going to put a girl on the song to sing who’s straight. I’m just not going to do it. So I reached out to Lauren, and she came in and she cut the vocal and it sounds awesome.”

Take a listen to ‘Strangers’ in the video above and don’t forget to pick up Halsey’s forthcoming album, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom due out Friday!
