We know and love Kumail Nanjiani as Dinesh Chugtai on ‘Silicon Valley’, and now he’s teamed up with his wife Emily V. Gordon to tell the story of how their relationship started in the new film ‘The Big Sick’.

Based on the couples real-life courtship, what they thought would be just a one-night stand blossoms into the real thing, which complicates the life that is expected of Kumail by his traditional Muslim parents. When Emily suddenly comes down with an illness that leaves her in a coma, and Kumail finds himself developing a bond with her deeply concerned mother and father, and deals with the emotional battle between his family and his heart.

The film is not only sad, but heartwarming, and it’s also funny!

The interview with Roz & Mocha started with Roz being the only one who watched the season finale of Kumail’s hit show ‘Silicon Valley’…even Emily hasn’t seen it!

Roz, intrigued, wanted to know if it sucks for Kumail, who’s a fan of good TV, to be ON a show like “Silicon Valley” as apposed to watching that show as a fan?

“I do really enjoy it, the first time I watch it, it’s nerve-wracking, the second time I actually watch it just because I like it. Sometimes I’ll be flipping channels and see “Silicon Valley” and would be like ‘Oh, I like this show!’ and will just watch an episode.”

Switching gears to the movie ‘The Big Sick’ we learn that Emily was angry and Kumail in the film for not being honest about his family not knowing the two were dating, and how his family is determined to fix him up in a pre-arranged marriage.

“They were trying to set me up for an arranged marriage, where I’m from that’s what happens. It’s a system that totally works, but just wasn’t for me,” Kumail explained.

On “Silicon Valley” Dinesh has a very difficult time with woman, and Roz noticed in this movie Kumail, who is actually himself in the movie”, has a really terrible pick up routine that he does with woman, and it works! Did he do that because he thinks people think his character on “Silicon Valley” can’t score with a girl, and did he want to let people know that in real life that is not the case at all?

“I wanted to re adjust you know, I wanted to bring the average back down to zero.”

Emily chimed in saying, “I think it’s ridiculous that ‘Silicon Valley’ pretends that you’re not a hunk, because you’re a complete hunk!”
