So, you think you’re Canadian, eh? Hang tight because the bar has just been raised on what it now means to be a patriot.

Damnit Maurie, from the Roz & Mocha Show, woke up, saw the new Tim Horton’s Poutine Doughnut, and asked the entire country to hold his beer while he funnelled 500ml of maple syrup. You know, for his country…

Fact: 77 percent of the world’s maple syrup is Canadian. Next to ESL Teachers it’s gotta be close to our number one export, right?

Funneling his way through milestones and holidays isn’t a new thing for Maurie, but for Canada150 it needed to be extra special. Although, ground bacon and rye shooting through a three foot tube straight down the hatch could be lethal, it may have actually been a better choice than downing in 500ml of thick Canadian pride.

Armed with two cans of Jakeman’s Maple Syrup, Maurie, the patriot, was ready to make his country proud! Canadian moose hat? Check! Maple Leaf lashes? Uh Huh! Fake nails, a flag and the decision making skills of a Quebec minor league goon? Yes, yes and yes!

If this doesn’t become a Canadian Heritage Minute in 40 years we’ve all failed.

So Maurie, how’d it go, eh?

After three attempts, I kept having to spit a mouthful out onto the floor, because it was so sweet and thick it was making me gag…I did my best!

Gross. Can I ask why? Like for real, why? Why’d ya wanna do this, eh?

I felt that I should, as a bold way to celebrate Canada150 but I did assume it would be easy. I thought it’s like candy.. How hard can it be? I went into this the same way I go into most things in life.. Don’t think to much about it, just do it! We all put maple syrup on pancakes and love it, so why not drink it?

How does this compare to all the other things you’ve funneled, eh?

No joke, this was the hardest! But not the most painful. The worst one was the Shamrock Shake from Mickey D’s that stuff make me so sick and backed up for days! But it wasn’t super easy either, like when I did the 7-11 Slurpee.

It’s hard to tell, because I’ve never seen you look ‘good’ but how are you coping, eh? Any side effects??

First, the obvious, everything you touch is sticky, and somehow I got syrup all over my arms, and elbow! For some reason this gave me gas all day, I was so worried about going to spin class with that issue. Without getting to graphic, it does really help when you need to “go”… Know what I mean? The one good side effect is every time I burped it tasted like pancakes!

Damnit Maurie Ranks his Top 3 Funneling Moments!

#1. That time I funneled chocolate milk for National Chocolate Milk Day! Who doesn’t love chocolate milk? Sure, it was thick and brown, but it was smooth and silky going down!

# 2. Last June, to welcome Summer ’16, I enjoyed the worst brain freeze ever by funneling a 7-11 Jumbo Slurpee! If I remember correctly, I mixed blueberry, cherry, coke & watermelon! Outside of the brain freeze, this was a breeze…get it? Summer…breeze.

#3. Most recently, I funneled a McDonald’s Shamrock Shake for St. Patrick’s day. Sure, I did it and was proud of myself, but this one was the most difficult (well, till the maple syrup one). It sat in my belly for days! Right after I did this one, I had to rush to the washroom and lay down on the floor, I legit felt so sick!
