Toronto is home to a cat café and more than enough dog friendly establishments. However, a bakery where mice try the food before you, isn’t what anyone asked for.

Over the weekend, Torontonian, Mohammad Valipour, captured the above video of a few rodents munching on some baklava in the window of Meli Baklava & Chocolate Bar on Queen St. West. CTV news caught up with Valipour, who called the incident, “disgusting.”

It’s hard to say, “WAIT, WAIT, it’s not THAAATTT bad!!!,” about a video where mice are openly taste testing food, but it’s actually not that bad. Meli Baklava & Chocolate Bar is located in Queen Street Live Fresh Food Market that they share with many other tenants. Most importantly, none of the food on display is actually served to the public. Co-owner of the restaurant, Julie Kyriakaki, made clear that the treats sold to the public are stored in trays under the counter away from non-humans.

The building may have a rodent problem, which allows a few mice to get a bite of some delicious baklava, however, that doesn’t seem to be the result of any negligence of the store owners. Meli’s very clean DineSafe history also shouldn’t be overlooked.

And after all, if Ratatouille taught us anything, it’s that rodents have pretty good taste buds!
