It was another star-studded, controversial, and highly entertaining evening at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards with there being many MUST SEE moments.

Taylor Swift debuted a new music video, Fifth Harmony threw some SERIOUS shade, Pink was honoured with the night’s highest honour and gave a beautiful speech and Kendrick Lamar took home six awards!

The show started off with a BANG as the man who came into the night with the most nominations (8), Kendrick Lamar, showed that he’s one of the hottest rappers in the game (if not THE hottest out right now) with a fiery performance of his hits ‘DNA’ and ‘Humble’!

Kendrick would go on to take home the award for  Video of the Year for his single, ‘Humble’.

Host Katy Perry had a unique opening that featured her in an astronaut costume!

Ever since he decided to delete his Twitter account, it feels as though we haven’t heard from Ed Sheeran in a while, but he definitely made his presence known at the show making the ladies swoon with his performance of ‘Shape of You’ featuring a surprise guest verse from rapper Lil Uzi Vert!

The surprises didn’t end there as Ed then joined Uzi to perform his hit, ‘XO Tour Llif3’!

Earlier in the night, the Artist of the Year winner (watch his speech below), brought the star of his ‘Shape of You’ video Jennie Pegouskie, to the show with him! as the two walked the red carpet.

Singer-songwriter and ‘Best New Artist’ nominee Julia Michaels performed her smash hit debut single, ‘Issues’ in one of the better vocal performances of the night… or at least we assume so because her performance was cut right in the middle as MTV went to commercial (more on this later)…

Our hometown boy Shawn Mendes brought his incredible charm and even more incredible voice to the VMAs stage to perform an acoustic version of his single, ‘There’s Nothing Holdin Me Back’.

Artist of the Year nominee Lorde toughed it out and performed on the VMA stage. Prior to her performance, Lorde revealed that rehearsals had taken their toll on her…

But Lorde’s performance was not a hit with many online, as she didn’t sing. She instead did an elaborate interpretive dance routine…

Maroon 5’s Adam Levine was NOT impressed with Lorde (turns out she was sick)…

Fresh off the release of their brand new album (and first without former member Camila Cabello), Fifth Harmony took the stage with rapper Gucci Mane to perform their single, ‘Down’, which won the award for ‘Best Pop Video’ earlier in the night.

But the ladies made sure to make a statement with their performance by starting out with 5 girls on stage and well, I’ll let you see for yourself…

Prior to the show, Miley poked some fun at her VMAs past…

Miley kept true to her word and had a much more tame, yet still entertaining performance this year as she sung her album title track, ‘Younger Now’.

Pink, tonight’s Michael Jackson Vanguard Award recipient, started off her performance with a medley of her hits, like ‘Raise Your Glass, ‘Get The Party Started’, ‘Perfect’ , and ‘Just Give Me A Reason’.

She then wowed the crowed with a stunning performance of her new single, ‘What About Us’.

Ellen DeGeneres would then present Pink with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and her speech was PERFECT!

Allow me to divert from the VMAs for one second.

Last night in Las Vegas was the highly anticipated Floyd Mayweather/Conor McGregor fight (which Floyd won).

Prior to that, Demi Lovato performed a stunning rendition of the ‘Star Spangled Banner’.

Tonight, Demi brought those same vocals to the VMAs stage (well she was still in Vegas but you get the point) performing her single, ‘Sorry Not Sorry’ off her forthcoming studio album, Tell Me You Love Me due out September 29th.

Canada was represented well tonight with Brampton, Ontario’s Alessia Cara taking the VMAs main stage for the first time this year to perform, ‘Scars to Your Beautiful’.

Last year, she performed on the pre-show with singer Troye Sivan.

Young Hip-Hop was also represented well at the VMAs with a performances from Cardi B, Khalid and Kyle!

Later in the evening, Khalid (who was voted Best New Artist) performed with Logic and Alessia Cara on the Suicide Prevention anthem, 1-800-273-8255.

Another powerful statement was made during the presentation of the ‘Fight Against the System’ award…

Jared Leto and his group 30 Seconds to Mars performed their new single, ‘Walk on Water’ (along with Travis Scott), but prior to the show Jared expressed some concern about the performance.

He told EXTRA, “We’re using new technology, so it can go completely wrong and be a disaster, but we’ll see… fingers and toes crossed.”

In one of the more unique collaborations of the evening, Rod Stewart teamed up with DNCE to perform his hit single, ‘Da Ya Think I’m Sexy’!

Rod actually re-released the single this past week to include Joe Jonas’ band.

Jack Antonoff and Bleachers performed their single, ‘Don’t Take The Money’…

VMAs host Katy Perry closed the show out with an elaborate performance with Nicki Minaj of their song, ‘Swish Swish’.
