Taylor Swift Sued Over "Shake It Off"

More specifically some of the lyrics in “Shake It Off” are said to be ripped off according to this lawsuit.

The song is 3LW’s “Playas Gon’ Play”.

Taylor’s lyrics go: “cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play/and the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate.”

3LW’s lyrics go: “Playas, they gonna play/ And haters, they gonna hate.”

Here’s the main point to this lawsuit: “playas” playing and “haters” hating are common vocabulary today, but back when this song was written in 2001, it was not. The song introduced us to it.

The songwriters of “Playas Gon’ Play” Sean Hall and Nathan Butler want 20 percent of the royalties from “Shake It Off.”

A rep for Taylor says it’s just a cash grab.
