It was announced that Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s ‘Despacito’ now has over 4 billion views on YouTube.

Although ‘Despacito’ means ‘slowly’ in English, it’s success between streaming performance and sales have been anything BUT slow.  The video, which doesn’t include Justin Bieber’s additional verses was posted on January 12 of 2017 and it has since raced to the No.1 spot and has been crowned the most-watched video on YouTube.  ‘Despacito’ surpasses Wiz Khalifa’s hit from 2015 ‘See You Again’ featuring Charlie Puth, which currently has 3.15 billion views and Psy’s ‘Gangnam Style’, which was released in 2012 and it’s been currently watched 2.97 billion times.

In a recent tweet posted by Luis, he says, “Thank you for supporting family. Thanks Puerto Rico.”

‘Despacito’ also set Vevo records for having the most views of a Spanish-language video in just 24 hours with over 5.4 million hits.  It’s also the fastest growing video to reach over 200 million views, then 2 billion views and 3 billion views.  The song also has over 4.6 billion streams and was able to accomplish this goal in just six months.

And it was just last month, ‘Despacito’ was recognized on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart for being No. 1 for 16 straight weeks, dethroning Mariah Carey and Boys To Men’s ‘One Sweet Day’, which ruled the same chart in 1995-96.
