A powerful new public service announcement from the Canadian Down Syndrome Society titled ‘The S Word’, addresses the sensitive issue surrounding how to react to the birth of a baby with Down Syndrome. More specifically, it focuses on educating people on what NOT to say, most notably, the word ‘Sorry’ (hence the title, ‘The S Word’).

The video is part of a campaign called, ‘Anything But Sorry’ and in a press release for the video, the Canadian Down Syndrome Society say,

“When a baby is born parents are usually showered with oohs, aahs and congratulations…The last thing most people would say to a new parent is ‘sorry.’ Yet this is exactly what many parents of a baby born with Down syndrome hear from friends, family and even their doctors. Already heartbroken, ‘sorry’ offers even more heartbreak.”

The video is very powerful, check out, ‘The S Word’ video above and a video titled, ‘Why Sorry is a Bad Word’.
