News broke on Monday that Demi was rushed to an L.A. hospital after she suffered from ‘an apparent overdose’.  A source says, “Demi recently has wanted to be more social and out and about and has been privately partying more with friends.”  Unfortunately for Demi, she cut ties with Mike Bayer, who is CEO of CAST Centres and who was also Demi’s sober companion.  Demi also cut ties with her own management team, living her life with her own rules.

During a performance in NYC this past March, Demi told her fans, “The reason why I became so open about my story is because I know that there are people here tonight that need to ask for help and I want them to know that it’s OK.  Mental health is something that we all need to talk about and we need to take the stigma away from it. So let’s raise the awareness. Let’s let everybody know it’s OK to have a mental illness and addiction problem.”

So, what’s next for Demi? Demi will soon seek treatment once she is released from Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in L.A., where she has been surrounded by friends and family.  Demi’s representative released a statement to her fans saying, “Demi is awake and with her family, who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support.  Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy and not speculation as her health and recovery is the most important thing right now.”
In the meantime, fans having been sharing their Demi-inspired stories via Twitter, expressing how Demi’s music, lyrics and her own personal story has given them the strength to overcome any obstacle in life.

Demi has been very open and honest about her addiction struggles, eating disorder and her mental health.  Demi once said, “You just have to take it one day at a time; some days are easier than others and some days you forget about drinking and using, but for me, I work on my physical health, which is important, but my mental health as well.  I make sure I stay on my medications. I go to AA meetings. I do what I can physically in the gym. I make it a priority.”
