The film stars Zac Efron, who takes on the role of Ted Bundy, Lily Collins who plays Ted’s longtime girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer and John Malkovich who plays the role as Edward Cowart, the 1978 presiding judge during Ted’s Florida trial and the judge who sentenced Ted to the death penalty.

Back in January, while promoting the film at Sundance, Zac explained to Variety about his overall physical transformation he had to make in order to play Ted, “The main thing is that guys in the ’70s have that wiry, thin look.  Ted was always kinda a little bit gaunt. He always looked pretty tired. So I had a good set of fake teeth that were pretty easy to talk with after a while. That was part of it… I just ate a lot of plant-based [food] and did a lot of cardio.”

So who exactly is Ted Bundy? As PEOPLE explains, “Bundy was a law student who was convicted of killing and raping several women across seven states from at least 1974 to 1978.  He met Kloepfer in 1969 in Washington where she worked as a secretary at the University of Washington School of Medicine.  Bundy was executed in Florida on Jan. 24, 1989 after confessing to 30 homicides committed, although the real total of murders is unknown.”
