2020 has been quite the year so far, and with the recent news of events being cancelled, it doesn’t look like we’ll be celebrating anything until at least July.

With COVID-19 cases on the rise in Toronto and all over the world, Mayor John Tory has announced all city events will be cancelled until June 30th, with the idea to keep Torontonians as safe as possible. Tory said, “This is not an easy decision to make, but it is necessary to protect the public and to save lives.”

The organizers of Toronto Pride Festival have announced the Festival Weekend from June 26-28 will be cancelled this year. “It is critically important that all organizations and people take every action possible to limit the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The decision by public health authorities to cancel permits through the month of June is a necessary one,” Pride Toronto stated.

Although the public seems to be disappointed with the cancellation, Toronto seems to understand the importance of this decision, and are unifying with the idea to stay safe, rather than sorry.
