Between her new album, Rare, and her new makeup line, Rare Beauty, which has successful across the globe, Selena Gomez is opening up about her new chapter in life with Rolling Stone.

“I wanted people to take away that this was a journey and that it was completely closed.  I don’t want people to see me as just sad and hurt. I didn’t want that anymore.  I wanted people to know that I experienced something real, and that part of me is over,” Selena shares.

Between her ongoing battle with lupus, which Selena suffered from anxiety, depression, and panic attacks, Selena says the making of Rare ‘didn’t come so easily,’ “I didn’t say, ‘I want to do an album’ — it was more just me going in, experimenting and writing with the people I feel comfortable writing with. This was probably three years ago. I didn’t feel inspired by much, so I would just kind of drift in and out.  I went away for a little bit. When I came back…?I don’t know if something came over me. I heard a song called ‘Rare,’ and that was the moment I knew that my album was starting and that this was going to be the name of the album before I even recorded it.”

There’s also another chapter Selena is ready to close for good – her past relationship with ex, Justin Bieber.  Prior to the release of her album, Rare, Selena dropped two songs, which were both about JB – ‘Lose You to Love Me’ and ‘Look at Her Now.’

Selena revealed to Rolling Stone, “It was my idea to release ‘Lose You to Love Me’ and ‘Look at Her Now.’  I knew from the get-go that ‘Lose You to Love Me’ was going to be the bigger song, because I just felt it in my heart.”  Back in October, Selena told Ryan Seacrest, “These two songs were me wrapping up a chapter in a pretty little bow, and the rest of the album is just all about where I am now and where I’m going so in my opinion, these are great songs, but I’ve saved the best for later.”

In addition, Selena got candid on Instagram about her battle with lupus, all while proudly showing off her kidney transplant scar.  “When I got my kidney transplant, I remember it being very difficult at first showing my scar.  I didn’t want it to be in photos, so I wore things that would cover it up. Now, more than ever, I feel confident in who I am and what I went through… and I’m proud of that,” Selena writes.
