Back in 2021, The Weeknd sampled Aaliyah’s 2001 hit, ‘Rock the Boat’ on a track titled ‘What You Need,’ which is featured on his 2012 compilation album, Trilogy.  To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Abel added the original sample of ‘What You Need’ to his House of Balloons mixtape when it became available on streaming services.

Earlier this year, Aaliyah’s uncle and Blackground Records founder, Barry Hankerson told Billboard how he and EMPIRE ‘partnered together to put Aaliyah’s entire catalog on streaming services for the first time ever.’   It’s been more than a decade since Aaliyah’s plane accident, which happened on Aug. 25, 2001.  Aaliyah was only 22 years old.
