It's Award Show Weekend: What Will You Be Watching?

It’s not too often that two major music award shows happen on the same night, but that’s the case this Sunday May 15th!

The 2022 Juno Awards are at 8PM on CBC, and The 2022 Billboard Music Awards are at 8PM on NBC.

To help you decide what to watch (or maybe you’ll just flip between both), here’s a Coles Notes version on both shows:

2022 Juno Awards:

Live from Toronto, at Budweiser Stage. (I don’t even remember the last time The Juno’s came to Toronto!)

Hosted by: Simu Liu (Kim’s Convenience, Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings)

Performances by:

The Arkells, Avril Lavigne, bbno$, Charlotte Cardin, Lauren Spencer-Smith, and Tesher.

Award nominees include:

The Weeknd, Justin Bieber, Jessia, Loud Luxury, Tate McRae, and JP Saxe.

Special appearance by: Shawn Mendes, who will receive the International Achievement Award!

Deborah Cox

Fun fact: Deborah Cox got her big break after being hired as a backup singer for Celine Dion!

2022 Billboard Music Awards:

Hosted by: Sean Combs “Diddy” (Hip-Hop rapper, and producer. Notable throwback: “I’ll Be Missing You”)

Performances by:

Ed Sheeran, Becky G, Latto, Megan Thee Stallion, Silk Sonic, and Travis Scott.

Award nominees include:

Doja Cat, The Weeknd, Drake, Olivia Rodrigo, BTS, Dua Lipa, and Justin Bieber.

Fun fact: Bieber is nominated in a record 13 categories this year, which could break Drake (29 wins) and Taylor Swift’s (25 wins) winning streak.

Special performance by 2022 Icon Award Recipient: Mary J Blige.
