Are you ready for a new Beyoncé era? As promised, Queen Bey dropped her first single in six years titled ‘Break My Soul.’  The song features a synth line reminiscent of Robin S.’ classic hit ‘Show Me Love,’ and a vocal sample of Big Freedia’s ‘Explode,’ which is off of the 2014 LP Just Be Free.

‘Break My Soul’ is Beyoncé’s first single from her upcoming album Renaissance, which drops on July 29.  The 16-track album is Beyoncé’s seventh solo album, and the follow-up to Lemonade, released in 2016.

According to Billboard, “Lemonade shot to the top of the Billboard 200 chart, giving Bey her sixth solo No. 1 and extending her streak as the only act to reach No. 1 with their first six studio efforts, as well as the only act to debut atop the list with their first six.”

Since 2016, Beyoncé made a joint album with Jay-Z in 2018, titled Everything Is Love, she also worked on The Lion King: The Gift (2019), Homecoming: The Live Album (2019), and released ‘Be Alive,’ from film King Richard.  Bey also made a special appearance on Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘Savage Remix.’

Last year during an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Beyoncé hinted at her seventh studio album saying, “With all the isolation and injustice over the past year, I think we are all ready to escape, travel, love, and laugh again.  I feel a renaissance emerging, and I want to be part of nurturing that escape in any way possible.”
