HAPPY 150TH BIRTHDAY CANADA from the Roz & Mocha show!

To celebrate, I want to share with you my Top 5 Favourite Canadian Celebrities, and my number one should really come as no surprise…

1. DWAYNE ‘THE ROCK’ JOHNSON

You’re probably saying to yourself, “The Rock? But he’s not Canadian!” What I say to that is, to SHUT YOUR DAMN MOUTH JABRONI! DON’T MAKE ME CHECK YOUR CANDY-ASS IN TO THE SMACKDOWN HOTEL!

His father, the great Rocky Johnson was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia!

Fun fact, The Rock played for the Calgary Stampeders in 1995 but was cut two months into the season. The Stampeders ended up going to the Grey Cup that year but lost…probably because they didn’t have The Great One on the squad anymore (I bet they regret that now).

In 2009, The Rock raised The People’s Eyebrow upon receiving his Canadian Citizenship and continued on his quest for greatness. He’s an 8-time WWE Champion, 2-time Intercontinental Champ, 5-time Tag Team Champ and winner of the Royal Rumble in 2000. He’s someone I look up to because of his dedication to everything he does. He’s got passion, love for his family, his fans and his work, all the things that i’m passionate about.  He truly is The People’s Champ…oh, and we’re pretty much best friends 😉 Can you smell what The Rock is Cookin’?

2. DRAKE

The one-time (One Dance) Toronto Raptors Global Ambassador is known around the world as the 6-God! He reps for the City he grew up in wherever he goes and people love that about him…not to mention he helped make calling Toronto “The Six”, “The 6”, “The 6ix”, however you wanna spell is an actual thing.

I love the fact that I can listen to any of his albums and hear him call out certain Toronto streets or neighbourhoods and I’m like, “hey, I know that place!”

I love that he’s made Toronto a destination for his annual OVO Fest! People outside of this City get excited because you never know who’s gonna show up on that stage. Jay Z, Eminem, Kanye West, Diddy & Made, TLC, Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj, Lil’ Wayne have all touched down in Toronto at some point to join Drizzy on that stage and put the crowd into a frenzy! Just this week, he announced the lineup for this year’s show and you KNOW I’m going to be there!

Sold out World Tours, his own brand of Jordan sneakers, a big-ass mansion in the Bridlepath neighbourhood here in Toronto that is currently under construction, millions and millions of albums sold, chart-topping hits, a clothing brand with stores in Toronto, L.A. and New York, what else is there for Drake to dominate? Just wait and see…it’s an Eastside ting y’know!

3. MICHAEL J. FOX

1

Why do I like Michael J. Fox? Because he’s “Marty McFly” from all the Back To The Future movies, a.k.a one of my fave trilogies in movie history (yes, I even like part 3!)

2

Also, who could hate on Alex P. Keaton from Family Ties?

Born in Edmonton, he’s received a star on the Canada Walk of Fame and Hollywood Walk of Fame, is an activist for Parkinson’s Disease research after being diagnosed in 1992 and has continued to work since the diagnosis.

Every interview I’ve ever seen of him, he’s always had smile on his face, is polite to everyone and is an all around nice guy.

You know how they say Canadians are so nice? Michael J. Fox is the example of that statement.

4. RYAN GOSLING

Hey girl, how could you hate on Ryan Gossling? Have you seen those abs? Don’t act like you never paused that scene in Crazy, Stupid Love to see if those abs are real!

Another Canadian who comes off as a super nice guy! Who could forget his role in the hit TV show (that only lasted one season) Breaker High?

Breaker-High

This father of two set hearts ablaze in 2004 alongside Rachel McAdams in the classic film The Notebook and had everyone wanting to recreate the “It’s not over” scene.

Flicks like Drive, The Ides of March, The Big Short, The Nice Guys, Gangster Squad, the Golden Globe and Academy Award Winning La La Land are just a few of the movies that show this Canadian’s skill on the big screen. He’s funny, he’s dramatic, he’s charming. Not to mention the upcoming Blade Runner flick, which is destined to be a hit.

London, Ontario has a lot to be proud of!

5. RACHEL MCADAMS

Can anyone be as sweet as London’s own and York University grad Rachel McAdams? She’ll forever be immortalized as Regina George in Mean Girls (“stop trying to make ‘fetch’ happen”) and as mentioned above, that scene in The Notebook with Ryan Gossling…amIriiiiiight?????

You never see her without a smile on her face and she’s always pleasant to talk to. From The Wedding Crashers to The Time Traveller’s Wife, to Sherlock Holmes and 2015’s Spotlight, Rachel McAdams makes our country very proud. The highlight for me though, is telling our producer Damnit Maurie that Rachel is a HUGE wrestling fan and telling him to talk to her about it during an interview. She didn’t get mad, get up and leave or wasn’t rude about it at all. She’s just too damn nice!
