First off, we’d like to start with KING JIMBO, because he’s in need of some help. JIMMY was sent to Save Our Scruff in probably the worse conditions they’d ever seen. JIMMY was covered in scars but even worse, scabs and infections. His belly was red and purple – it was basically raw from inflammation and scratching. His nose was cracked and bleeding and his eyes were a total mess. He was burning hot to touch, and very itchy. “This dog has never once in his life known what it was like to be comfortable in his own skin.” Laura rushed him into The Downtown Animal Clinic with Dr. Steede, where she looked him over and gave Laura the low down. Turns out, JIMBO has allergies. Easy enough to treat, but when neglected can be uncomfortable and painful. His scarring was from years of not enough care. All of his teeth were black, completely rotting out of his mouth. And he weighed in at 22lbs when at a healthy weight would be 12lb.
Save Our Scruff got him on antibiotics and some Omega 3s. Switched his food. Got him bathed. Gave him consistent LOVE and he gave it right back. He is probably one of the sweetest dogs they’d ever met. He really does deserve the best. At first, they thought they needed to send him to a sanctuary where someone could give him the care he needs. But while getting him healthy enough to fly, he charmed his now foster so much that she can’t dare to see him go. BUT they need to get him fully vetted first. His teeth NEED to come out. They are causing him discomfort and are only getting worse. His adopter has committed to him for the rest of his life. Let’s get him up to standards so he can take advantage of all the love he has been given!

Ash Alvey walks MAX, showing how obident he is with the proper tools and guidance. Ash is a helper of dad Brent, a trainer from Complete K9 Care. MAX is looking for a FOSTER. He has been spending some time with Complete K9 Care and here’s what they had to say: “My goodness he is a beautiful boy. MAX suffers from separation anxiety but that has been quickly improving and is limited to when he is crated and sees the other dogs playing without him. Aside from separation anxiety, MAX hasn’t had much socializing so he gets really excited when he meets dogs but beyond that he has an incredibly stable temperament. MAX is a high energy German Shepherd from working bloodlines so he really needs lots of structured exercise, mental stimulation and will need an active owner. He will do best in a home with experienced owners who may possibly get him involved in some dog sports or give him a job. He gets so calm and focused when he is walking with his backpack its clear that Max is meant to have a job, even if its just walking with a backpack”. MAX is about a year old and comes from a less than favourable background. He was surrendered to SOS. MAX is available for adoption but we are also currently looking for a foster for him.

Meet TUNA. Her mix of collie, husky and corgi turned her into a complete FLUFFBALL! SOOO FLUFFY. She loves being around people and cuddling on the couch. She’s fully housetrained and is working on walking without pulling on the leash. She also sits on command! She loves to play outside and enjoys a game of fetch. She’s still warming up from her new surrounds as she just arrived from Quebec earlier in the week. She is utd on shots and has been spayed! She is a medium-large sized dog! How can you not obsess over her!

TOBY is a wonderful small-medium dog who is incredibly smart and well behaved. Although he is the oldest of the Save Our Scruff gang, you would never be able to tell as he loves playing outside (and does well off leash). TOBY has had a rough go and has a hard time trusting new people. After a few weeks of routine and patience TOBY really opens up and and will show you his confident and very goofy side! He needs a forever family that is patient and has an abundance of unconditional love. TOBY is good with other dogs but has a bit of trouble with strangers, particularly men. With encouragement and maybe some treats TOBY can adjust to anything. He is a wonderful dog that is deserving of a great home. He is neutered and fully housetrained.

FINLEY is on the search for his forever home! He is a happy go lucky young boy. He loves people (including kids) and all dogs. He also loves to play fetch and is getting much better at dropping the ball so you can throw it again. He has recently shown signs of resource guarding and therefore will need someone willing to correct this! He loves to go for walks, is about a year and is a mix breed. He is also utd on shots and neutered. He is a complete cuddle bug and enjoys nothing more that just being loved. If he isn’t getting enough attention he will certainly show it by getting up onto your lap and asking for it! He is being fostered in Toronto if you want to go for a visit or maybe meet him at the dog park!

ELSA is up for ADOPTION. She is very friendly but also timid and shy. She needs reassurance that she’s doing what she is supposed to as being a house dog is all new to her! As of now, she is following her foster around the house and likes to stay near her because she’s the only thing she knows. Once settled, ELSA should be able to be comfortable enough in her surroundings to be in rooms by herself and be less anxious. She is learning to be housetrained but is in the beginning stages. She will need someone available to let her out to the bathroom as she doesn’t know how to show it and will end up going inside. She is learning how to walk on leash and is improving! She is NOT to be off leash as she hasn’t become comfortable enough to do things she knows are good vs. doing things out of fear (E.g. running away when you go after her). She is eager to please and this is beneficial to her training! It’s important we get her in a forever home quickly so she can learn the routines/rules while she is adjusting. She is good with cats and and small dogs of lower energy since she is easily frightened. ELSA is a gorgeous dog but please look into matching her personality when considering your home suitable for her.

YOKO! She is a one year old Malix — mexican mutt, weighing approximately 30lbs. YOKO had a litter of 8 puppies and was brought into the humane society extremely malnourished and dehydrated. She continued to successfully nurse all her puppies and they are now weaned. She craves human attention and is a very quick learner. She is adjusting to the sights and sounds of Toronto; she can be a little skittish around streetcars, in elevators, etc. She is extremely well socialized with people and dogs. She is a dream on her leash

PENNY! She is a one year old border collie mix, weighing approximately 25lbs. She was found as a stray, found wandering in and out of a secondary school being used as a target target practice for students. This doesn’t show in her demeanour. She is very gentle and friendly, she also is very trusting of others although a little skittish at times. She is adjusting to the sights and sounds of Toronto; she can be a little skittish around streetcars, in elevators, etc. She is extremely well socialized with people and dogs. She is looking for her forever home.

SOKKAR!! This beautiful Egyptian Baladi arrived almost two weeks ago to SOS and was prepared to be adopted as quickly as his two travel buddies. Being the last to find a home, SOKKAR has become very sad and depressed in his foster home. He is taking his ‘cone of shame’ WAY too personally so we have decided to make it our mission to find him a home FAST. He is a loveable guy that enjoys the outdoors. He would love the freedom of a large fenced yard– which would remind him of the freedom of being a stray. Someone available to him more frequently (home for lunch breaks, works at home) will be best for him as he really needs attention right now. He’s adjusting to the change but needs someone who will be there for him to help him through it. He is a medium sized dog weighing approximately 35-40lbs, is roughly 4 and is neutered and utd on shots.

Meet DEX. This beautiful 11 month shepherd/lab mix will definitely steal your heart! He is neutered and utd on shots! He was surrendered to SOS due to illness of his owner. He is totally submissive, affectionate, loving with children, housetrained, leash trained and crate trained. Need we say more???! He will still need some training as he is very excited. He will need LOTS of exercise which will chill him out and allow you to see his well-mannered/natured side. He has a little bit of separation anxiety.. But this boy is going through something he doesn’t understand! He may be better with another dog to keep him company but it is not required. He is submissive to dominant dogs and therefore will do best around a dog that can show him the hopes — but also has good behaviours/training.

And if you want to shed a couple tears. Read these amazing stories of dogs who have been adopted:

Our last of the three Dominican siblings has been adopted! TAZ now NOVA (popular name this week) is with her forever family! Here’s what they had to say: “NOVA is such a good and chill puppy! She knows sit and waits patiently for her food until we say okay! She loves taking naps in the car and has already gone adventuring up north to explore the woods with her cousins! Her favourite chair is a big green comfy recliner or anywhere tucked in between us. She hasn’t had one accident indoors yet! She is so well behaved, we couldn’t be more happier”. Congrats!! We home once everyone is settled we can get these siblings on a play date together!!

TURTLE now WILLOW has been adjusting fabulously in her new home! After only being there for a short while, she has been learning the routine of things and also picked up some basic commands. Already?! Really?! She is AWESOME with the three rescue cats the couple already own and loves to cuddle and relax with her new owners. How do these street dogs adjust so fast! It’s AMAZING what love, safety and companionship can do for a dog P.S. She also supports the leafs along side her owners. Maybe she will bring happiness to them as well

Stop. Drop. AND NAP! WAYNE is welcomed to his new home with a good cuddle from his new brother! His family is beyond excited about how behaved this puppy has been and how quickly he is learning! He’s been loving having a big backyard to run and explore and has even started hiking with the fam! When sleeping he gets as close to his humans as possible, he does NOT want to ever feel alone again. His new buddy seen pictured with him even cried knowing he had to go to school and leave WAYNE now TOBY at home. Now they get to grow up together  This is what love looks like guys!

There’s nothing more comfortable than a permanent home. Here DOLLY lays with her new favourite toy MOOSE, one that she carries everywhere. She has the peace and serenity she needs– now that she’s home. She is welcomed to the Crawford family as their only dog! We can only imagine the amount of attention that will be given to her.
