Wanna help raise awareness for kids with disabilities?

You can get involved by fundraising and wearing a superhero cape to help!

Holland Bloorview kids Rehabilitation Hospital is kick off its third annual Capes for Kids fundraising campaign to support kids with disabilities and their families. They’re asking fundraisers to wear superhero capes everywhere they go while they celebrate hitting their fundraising goals; the capes also help visually, to spark conversation around childhood disability and inclusion.

Their goal this year is to raise $605,500 which will help support research and critical hospital programs and services like:

  • Bloorview Research Institute expansion, including Ontario’s first child-friendly research MRI fully accessible to children of all abilities. The expansion also includes state-of-the-art discovery hubs in machine learning and artificial intelligence, imaging, music and the arts, socioecological dimensions of childhood disability and neuromodulation.
  • The Family Support Fund, which gives financial aid to families for special equipment, transportation, accommodations, medications.
  • Respite services (overnight/day) to help give parents a break and recharge.
  • Music therapy programs, which give kids and youth the chance to be social, artistic and creative.
  • The Spiral Garden outdoor art, garden and summer camp program, which helps kids’ imaginations bloom.
  • The Independence Program (TIP), which gives young adults with disabilities the chance to live alone for three weeks and helps them develop valuable life skills.
