After being married for less than a year, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have called it quits!

A rep who works for Miley issued a statement to PEOPLE which read, “Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time.  Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers. They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.”  Although it wasn’t confirmed just yet, rumours about Miley and Liam began prior to the weekend when fans couldn’t help but notice Miley’s ring-less finger.  Sitting in a chair, rocking black pants and a black bustier top, Miley captioned the photo, “Mute me if you don’t want SPAMMED.”

It seems as though Miley hit Italy just in time with Kaitlynn Carter who, also went through her own breakup with Brody Jenner after the two were married for only a year.  The two have been sailing around Lake Como and based on this photo (below) the two ladies are living their best lives, as single women.  Kaitlynn captioned her photo, “Rock the boat, don’t rock the boat baby.”

A few months ago, Miley opened up to Elle Magazine and how, in her words, “she doesn’t fit into a stereotypical wife role.”  Miley explains, “I think it’s very confusing to people that I’m married. But my relationship is unique.  I don’t know that I would ever publicly allow people in there because it’s so complex, and modern, and new that I don’t think we’re in a place where people would get it.  I mean, do people really think that I’m at home in a f*****g apron cooking dinner? I’m in a hetero relationship, but I still am very sexually attracted to women.  People become vegetarian for health reasons, but bacon is still f*****g good, and I know that. I made a partner decision. This is the person I feel has my back the most. I definitely don’t fit into a stereotypical wife role. I don’t even like that word.”

Miley and Liam said ‘I do’ back in December during a quiet and intimate reception inside their home in Franklin, Tennessee.  Their wedding took place prior to the California Wildfires and according to a friend, they told PEOPLE, “The timing for their wedding makes perfect sense. They, like many others, endured a painful loss which deepened their bond.  They don’t have doubts about their relationship.  They both wanted to get married. They have both matured a lot, and it seemed like the perfect time for them to get married.”
