TODAY is the day that Drake’s new project, More Life is ‘expected’ to drop and well … word is it will not be exclusive to Apple Music<.

With it’s 2015 launch, Drake has been been working closely with the streaming service, with a deal that includes two (2) exclusive album releases, TV ads, a short film, exclusive music videos, a tour sponsorship and more.  Unfortunately, More Life will not partake in this deal.

An unknown source has confirmed that the ‘playlist’ will be on Amazon’s streaming service as well as Apple Music.  Along with Amazon and Apple, Spotify has hinted that they also have Drake’s new project since they tweeted about it using the project’s trailer video, captioning it as “coming soon”.

As Billboard reports, there are 2 main ‘possible’ theories as to why Drake would go wide with the release of More Life:

OVO is distributed through Republic Records (Universal Music Group) and its chairman/CEO, Lucian Grainge previously ordered to put an end to all streaming exclusives. However, reports circulated that the ban would NOT include previously negotiated deals, which most likely would include Drake’s deal with Apple.

OR …

More Life could be more of an OVO label compilation rather than a Drake album and this could simply be the industry’s way of moving away from exclusive deals such as new albums and/or songs.  And let’s be honest, Drake has that power to make his fans sign up for streaming services JUST to hear his album so regardless of his streaming deals, he’d probably want as many fans as possible to get on his new music.
